A Condition Called Love ‒ Episode 5
I’m sorry if this review is upsetting manga readers but I can only judge these episodes based on what I see at the moment and at the moment, I’m not particularly pleased with what I’m watching.
KonoSuba – God's blessing on this wonderful world! 3 ‒ Episode 4
This felt like a lot of setup and a whole lot of yelling, but not much else. While that certainly fits Konosuba to a T, this episode left me wanting more.
The Many Sides of Voice Actor Radio ‒ Episode 4
Forget about the imminent end of the radio show alluded to last week; now Yuhi herself is the one who's wound up canceled!
Wind Breaker ‒ Episode 5
Suo could have simply humiliated Kanuma and called it a day, but he keeps the utter ass-whooping going until he’s sure the message has landed.
SAND LAND: THE SERIES ‒ SEASON FINALE
So here we are at the end of Akira Toriyama's final non-Dragon Ball series—and what a ride it has been.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Video Game Review
I cannot imagine how Square Enix could top themselves after this.
― Final Fantasy VII Rebirth initially launched on the last day of February, and if you look at the date of this review's publication, you will immediately be able to discern one thing about this second entry of the FF7 Remake series: It is gargantuan. The first game got plenty of praise (and plenty of flak) for taking the relatively sh...
Mysterious Disappearances ‒ Episode 4
Who are Oto and Adashino? Where did they come from? Why are they living in the abandoned station? Oto doesn't want to answer those questions, but we get some clues nevertheless this week.
Spice & Wolf: merchant meets the wise wolf ‒ Episode 5
Big things go down in this week's Spice and Wolf, and by that, I mean that Holo does an adorable little dance by wiggling her ears.
Unnamed Memory ‒ Episode 4
The sword fights are probably the most frustrating element of this episode.
Train to the End of the World ‒ Episode 5
Watching this episode feels like watching a normal anime episode at 1.5x speed.
One Piece ‒ Episode 1102
This week's episode bridges a few conversations and prepares us for the next evolution of the battle for Egghead Island.
Kaiju No. 8 ‒ Episode 3
Kafka whining about his lack of power from being in his 30s is pretty relatable - I promise you kids, you will notice a few more slowdowns and aches as time catches up with you.
Shaman King Flowers Anime Series Review
Ultimately, my biggest problem with Shaman King Flowers is that it mostly just feels like a set-up to a much larger story that has yet to actually happen.
― [Warning, this review will contain major spoilers for the ending of Shaman King (2021)] If there's one thing that can be counted on with battle shonen properties, it's that any of them that go on long enough will inevitably get some sequel series...
Black Butler: Public School Arc ‒ Episode 3
Isn’t it nice to have Prince Soma attending Weston?
Whisper Me a Love Song ‒ Episode 3
Although most of this episode features both girls mulling things over and stuck in their respective quagmires, it also is the episode that starts things moving forward.
Tonari no Yōkai-san ‒ Episode 4
I'm starting to wonder if this cartoon needs to be reported as a threat to domestic and international security on account of how irresponsibly adorable it is.
Go! Go! Loser Ranger! ‒ Episode 4
We didn't know enough about Hibiki to properly clock whether he was as unhinged as all the other Dragon Keepers, but now I have no problem declaring the guy to be just a teensy bit "Cuckoo for Coco-Puffs...
The Grimm Variations Anime Series Review
The Grimm Variations is one of those shows that tries. It almost tries too hard, and the result is that some of the tales are beyond recognition, while others play it too safe.
― At the end of The Grimm Variations, Charlotte, the real-life younger sister of the Brothers Grimm (who were, in fact, only two of many Grimm brothers), remarks that she would like to see fairy tales where the protagonists ar...
Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night ‒ Episode 4
There are some leaps of fantasy for the sake of the narrative, but Jellyfish really does capture something that more fantastical music anime tend to lack.
Sound! Euphonium 3 ‒ Episode 4
Will the primary vector Sound! Euphonium's third season's primary story objective be Kumiko just talking with the new band members about their problems?
Ninja Kamui ‒ Episode 12
Mike and his old partner scramble to find Joseph before the FBI's higher-ups can assassinate him, while Higan heads off to his showdown with Yamaji as he prepares for whatever his ninja revolution involves.
Delicious in Dungeon ‒ Episode 17
She is terrifying and haunting to behold, and she bounds beastily into the fray to cries of terror from the characters and cheers of jubilation from the audience.
Anime to Watch if You Liked Shogun
The critically-acclaimed historical drama captivated audiences, but if you're craving more battle tactics and court intrigue, these anime will scratch your Shogun itch.
― For the past couple of months, it's been hard to ignore the loud promotion of Disney+/Hulu's mega-budget Shogun. Based on James Clavell's feted 1975 novel, it's a compelling and glossy historical drama following a large cast of fic...
Mission: Yozakura Family ‒ Episode 4
It should be clear to both Taiyo and the audience that the boy has done married himself into a family of dang-ass freaks.
BLUELOCK THE MOVIE -EPISODE NAGI- Anime Film Review
Makes Nagi an even more interesting and nuanced character, but the last 10 minutes almost upends the film's otherwise interesting plot.
― BLUELOCK THE MOVIE -EPISODE NAGI- is a retelling of the early events of BLUELOCK through the eyes of Nagi and Mikage. However, that's not to say this is a recap or compilation film. Rather, a good 70% of the film is newly animated footage as the story follows their...
Interview: Author Akihiro Nishino on Bottle George, His New Stop-Motion Animated Film
Following Poupelle of Chimney Town, Nishino tackles addiction in his new stop-motion anime short film.
― In advance of the U.S. premiere of the new stop-motion animated short film Bottle George, Anime News Network sat down with writer Akihiro Nishino and chatted not only about the film and its creation but also its deeper message and how it connects to Nishino's past. While now well-known as a childr...

Laid-Back Camp Season 3 ‒ Episode 4
The featured stations, forests, restaurants, roads, mountains, rivers, dams, and bridges are all as lively as any of the girls—and that goes double for the bridges on a windy day.
A Condition Called Love ‒ Episode 4
Who is the character of Hananoi, and why should I care about him based strictly on what the show has highlighted in these first four episodes?
Wind Breaker ‒ Episode 4
The Shishitoren roll up with all the grace of a fighting game roster.

SAND LAND Video Game Review
SAND LAND is a curious game that combines an eclectic set of gameplay features into a well-realized package that, despite its flaws, is perfectly solid and more than the sum of its parts.

This Week in Games - Atlus With the Old, In With the New
Atlus reveals its big new game, Metaphor: ReFantazio, amid the recent exit of Shin Megami Tensei artist Kazuma Kaneko. PLUS: A Golden Axe comedy series and Pokémon Go models get a makeover.
― Welcome back, folks! As you probably noticed, Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes came out earlier this week. It's a fun time, as you could see in my review of it. It's come to my attention that there are some per...
The Story of Suikoden
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes promises to revive the Suikoden series in everything but name, but what's so great about Suikoden that it's worth reviving? Well, read on…
― It's 1996, and the PlayStation is just starting to take over the game industry. It has many genres covered: racing, fighting, action, sports, puzzles, train-conducting, deep-sea diving, fire-fighting, and so forth. But what abou...
KonoSuba – God's blessing on this wonderful world! 3 ‒ SEASON PREMIERE
Our favorite adventuring party is back together again after a few years and they continue to bring the stability and charisma of a sleep-deprived DND campaign.
The Many Sides of Voice Actor Radio ‒ Episode 3
This shared-bath session between Yuhi and Yasumi is, I think, meant to be endearingly awkward, but instead just comes off as regular awkward.
This Week in Anime - What's Weekly Shonen Jump's Next Big Manga?
Some of Shonen Jump's biggest manga hits are approaching their end. Does the magazine have new heavy-hitters lined up to take up the mantle?

SAND LAND: THE SERIES ‒ Episode 12
This entire episode is one giant action set piece as Beelzebub deals with Muniel while the others fight Mecha-Bred with the tank. One of these fights is excellent. The other… not so much.
The ANN Aftershow - Will You Watch Solo Leveling Season 2?
James and Lynzee reflect on the end of Solo Leveling and whether its worldbuilding is worth its edgy turn. PLUS: The big monsters of Kaiju No. 8, & court intrigue in Yatagarasu!

Mysterious Disappearances ‒ Episode 3
It shows the idea of her going too far and becoming what she hates most – the signs that marked where she inflicted pain are now weapons used against her.
Train to the End of the World ‒ Episode 4
The first three were great, but this fourth episode is where Train to the End of the World takes off the kid gloves and puts on the weird fiction brass knuckles.
Spice & Wolf: merchant meets the wise wolf ‒ Episode 4
Despite the age and divinity gap between them, Holo and Lawrence have a lot in common, and that includes their insecurities.
Kaiju No. 8 ‒ SERIES PREMIERE
I think the two halves work well in conjunction with one another, and it helps the series occupy a rather unique place in the greater swath of kaiju media.
Unnamed Memory ‒ Episode 3
Was it traumatic for Oscar to have to snap her neck in his dreams? Absolutely. Does anything explain what appears to be Tinasha's romantic feelings for him? Not really.
Dark Moon: The Blood Altar Volumes 1-2 Manhwa Review
Some books are good. Some books read like self-insert fanfiction from the early days of AO3, but you can't stop reading and enjoying them. Dark Moon: The Blood Altar is one of those.
― Some books are good. Some books are not and read sort of like self-insert fanfiction from the early days of AO3, but even though you recognize that they aren't objectively filled with literary merit, you can't stop rea...

One Piece ‒ Episode 1101
The fight is thrilling, full of so many wonderful moments with the usual flair and comedy the Toei team has put out with astonishing regularity.
Wonderful Precure! Episodes 1-12 Anime Review
You can't accuse the Pretty Cure franchise of resting on its laurels. Wonderful Precure! could move too slowly for some viewers. But these episodes are full of unmitigated joy.
― You can't accuse the Pretty Cure franchise of resting on its laurels. While there are distinct similarities between all iterations of the long-running Magical Girl franchise, recent years have done their best to maintain the...
A Condition Called Love ‒ Episode 3
What makes this episode stronger than the previous two is how I finally understand what story A Condition Called Love is trying to tell. It's not perfect but it has won me over on a few things.
Sound! Euphonium 3 ‒ Episode 3
After all, it's important that a band has everyone capable of working in concert.
Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction Part 1 Anime Film Review
Part District 9 meets O Maidens in Your Savage Season, part grimdark deconstruction of Doraemon.
― Many anime films are adapted from manga and Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction is no exception. Usually, a film will cover a single arc of the greater plot—giving the story on screen a solid beginning, middle, and end. However, this is not the case with the first Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destructi...
Go! Go! Loser Ranger! ‒ SERIES PREMIERE
This show scratches the primal itch that has existed at the deepest recesses of my consciousness ever since Tiny James first discovered Power Rangers.
Mission: Yozakura Family ‒ SERIES PREMIERE
I'm happy to enjoy this toon as nothing more than an exciting spy adventure with just a dash of cheesy romance thrown in to keep things interesting.
Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation II ‒ SEASON PREMIERE
If there is a running theme for these three episodes, it's the fact that Rudeus is no longer alone.

Ninja Kamui ‒ Episode 11
While this episode has many moving parts, none connect the way they need to, and the results feel pretty messy.
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes Game Review
People might think of this game as a celebration of the energy and experimentation of RPGs past, a tribute to a time when archetypes and genre conventions hadn't yet calcified and anything was fair game. And for once, they'd be right.
― There's a point that Lady Perielle returns to often when people ask her why Nowa, a young warrior from a small village, is the leader of the resistance front against ...
Tonari no Yōkai-san ‒ SEASON PREMIERE
Watching this show every week is like taking a vacation to visit the worlds of your favorite childhood storybooks, all combined into one.
Delicious in Dungeon ‒ Episode 16
This episode brings a number of long-simmering tensions to a full boil and the pot nearly bubbles over.
Whisper Me a Love Song ‒ SEASON PREMIERE
If it were strictly up to Yori, she and Himari would be dating and doing all the “normal” girlfriend things…but Himari’s definition of “love” isn’t in line with that.
Black Butler: Public School Arc ‒ SEASON PREMIERE
In Ciel's day-to-day life, he's the master of demon butler Sebastian and his own earldom. But no one cares about all of that at Weston.
Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night ‒ Episode 3
The most important lesson that an artist of any discipline must learn is that you cannot fear the cringe.
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3 ‒ SEASON PREMIERE
These first three episodes showcase what I love most about this series and how too much of a good thing can hurt your story.
Laid-Back Camp Season 3 ‒ SEASON PREMIERE
Although this third season arrives bearing change behind and in front of the scenes, these girls and their camping escapades still entice the audience to touch the grass.
SAND LAND: THE SERIES ‒ Episode 11
This whole episode is a showcase of the trust the entire cast has for Rao—as a friend, general, or former enemy.

Classroom of the Elite Season 3 Anime Series Review
However, for all the good to be found in the season, there is a notable flaw: its pacing.
― On most levels, Classroom of the Elite Season 3 falls into the category of being "more of the same." After all, the usual story pattern remains intact: Some new threat comes for Ayanakoji's class, and he pulls strings from behind the scenes, eventually coming out on top. That said, this season does its best to...

The Best Weapons in BLUELOCK to Build The Perfect Team
We're taking Fantasy Football to the soccer field to build the perfect team of egoists.
― Unlike other sports anime, Bluelock's central theme doesn't revolve around teamwork and self-sacrifice. This, nevertheless, is to be expected considering the series' plot. For instance, when Jinpachi Ego introduces himself to the 300 personally curated prospects meant to participate in his battle royal-esque ex...
INTERVIEW: Small-Town Horror Comes to Life in Masaaki Ninomiya's GANNIBAL Manga
The manga creator shares the horror films that influenced his series set in rural Japan, where humans are on the menu.
―
Is Masaaki Ninomiya's horror manga Gannibal folk horror? It certainly fits a lot of the subgenre's definition. Set in a strange, isolated mountain village, it touches on how ritual can influence insular communities and how that looks to outsiders – and even more importantly, how o...

At 25:00 in Akasaka BL Drama Cast Discuss Kiss Scene, Personal Hobbies at Live Event
Kiita Komagine and Taisuke Niihara show how they perfected the right angle for their on-screen kiss.
― The cast members of the new BL drama At 25:00, in Akasaka showed off what they do at 25 o'clock (1:00 am) at night. And it's nothing like what happens in the drama. While somewhat underrepresented in the anime industry, boys' love (BL) has a strong presence in the manga and TV drama world. With at l...

The Many Sides of Voice Actor Radio ‒ SEASON PREMIERE
For as enjoyable as the premise and the leads powering it are, the fact is that the production of Voice Actor Radio is letting it down thus far.
Unnamed Memory ‒ SERIES PREMIERE
Both Oscar and Tinasha have to learn to let go a little in order to move forward, and I don't think either of them are particularly good at it
Spice & Wolf: merchant meets the wise wolf ‒ SERIES PREMIERE
While I'm not fully convinced this project was necessary, Holo and Lawrence's chemistry and banter still draw me inexorably into the world of Spice & Wolf.

― The Gundam Factory Yokohama held its “Grand Finale ~To the Next Stage~” event on March 31. And to be honest, grand is an understatement. It was epic. Since December 2020, Gundam fans from around the world have visited the Yamashita Pier area in Yokohama to see the 18-meter-tall RX-7...
Train to the End of the World ‒ SERIES PREMIERE
With its blend of various elements, this trip to Ikebukuro is a collection of demented parables bearing cute facades and sheathed claws.
Urusei Yatsura ‒ Episode 36
This episode felt like a catharsis for me because Shutaro's suffering is pretty much the punchline for every single joke and I love it!
A Condition Called Love ‒ SERIES PREMIERE
At best, Hananoi comes off as incredibly codependent and unable to recognize someone setting a clear set of boundaries. At worst, this guy has all the charisma of a potential serial killer.

Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night ‒ SEASON PREMIERE
Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night is especially focused on artists defining themselves, and how the persona of performance can be both transformative and restrictive.
Ninja Kamui ‒ Episode 10
As far as motivations go, it’s far from terrible but Zai’s story felt pretty predictable, and the execution wasn't strong enough since he ultimately comes off as more edgy than sympathetic.
Kurayukaba and Kuramerukagari Anime Movies Review
These tenously-linked films sport impressive world-building and mechanical designs but suffer from undercooked plots.

SPY×FAMILY Code: White Anime Film Review
The anime dub premieres tonight in Los Angeles, but is the Spy x Family film a must-see or an easy skip?
― Let's start this review with a bit of a litmus test to see whether you'll enjoy this film or not.
